IACP - Filling in the Gaps
We are proud of the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path but think it would be even better if the current gaps were filled in to enable us to walk right around the coastline. We are aware that this aim will take some years to achieve but believe if we concentrate on
three areas initially, this would be a good start and, hopefully, achievable.
The first area is to the east of Borthwen at Rhoscolyn Grid Reference SH275750 to SH275749. This is a well walked path but is privately owned and as such is not on the Definitive Map although it is linked to paths that are official Public Rights of Way. There are also two parts around Penmon. the first from Fedw Fawr SH606817 to SH630811 then from Trwyn Penmon SH640812 to Parciau SH629803 The third is close to South Stack from Pillar to Pen-las Rock SH215814 to SH208816. All the areas are marked in red on the O/S map extracts below.
Anglesey County Council are considering progressing path creation orders under Section 26 of the Highways Act 1980. To do this, it is necessary to prove the need for the new paths and if they would add to the convenience or enjoyment of a substantial section of the public or residents in the area.
If the Council was to go ahead with the plans, the two sections around Penmon and the section near South Stack would be moved off the road to follow the coastline. The one in Rhoscolyn would link to current Public Rights of Way. The Highways Department would be interested to hear your views on the proposals, in particular if you have tried to walk the proposed lines, any difficulties you may have encountered and if the new route or permanent Right of Way would improve the situation. Also how convenient is the current route of the coastal path and what impact does it have on your enjoyment of walking in the areas where the changes are proposed
